Let me first say that when my husband suggested that I start a blog, I dug in my heels and refused.  I thought, “I have nothing to say that anyone would want to read.”  The more I thought about it though, the more I thought, “maybe I do have something to say, and if I don’t, maybe I NEED to have something to say.”  So, here it is…my first blog entry.

I am.  Sometimes I don’t know how to complete that sentence.  I can give my resume of what I do and accomplishments I have received, but that is not really who I am.  So, instead I will say what I have.  I have a wonderful husband who pushes me to do things that he knows I should do. even though I may not have the guts to do them.  I have a classroom full of four to six year olds who look to me for guidance, passion, and love, and who give love back to me in ways that I could never imagine or explain.  I have friends who support me and lift me up.  I have a love of learning and a passion for teaching.

This is my 13th year of teaching in early childhood.  I taught in public schools in South Carolina for 7 years and am now the director of a university preschool and kindergarten.  I teach the 4-6 year old multi-age class as well as direct the program.  We use the Project Approach, which is a curriculum model that teaches children how to question, investigate, observe, and describe the world around them.  The most exciting part of teaching through projects is the ownership the children take and the responsibility they take for their own learning.  I have the privilege of seeing children learning how to learn and loving it!  My hope is that this blog will be a way to share my life, my passions, and my desires about education and the world in which we live and to maybe touch yours.
